Who is this SOB?
Welcome to SOB Simulations!

I’d like to begin with a brief introduction. I’m a 30-year USAF veteran—but I’m not a fighter pilot. In fact, I’m not a pilot at all. When I was commissioned into the USAF years ago, 20/20 vision was required for pilot selection, and by the time I entered college, my vision was already starting to fade. Flying in the military was a lifelong goal of mine, and while I couldn’t pursue a pilot role, I was fortunate enough to be selected for undergraduate navigator training. That’s how I ended up spending nearly 20 years as a professional "back seat driver"—primarily in the iconic C-130. I also spent time as a sensor operator on a small surveillance aircraft based on the Metroliner.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on active duty, as a reservist, and in the Air National Guard across Arkansas, California, and Arizona. My career has been incredible, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. With only 18 months left before I retire, I plan to dive full-time into developing for DCS. Many of the events in my DCS campaigns are inspired by my real-life experiences in the USAF. In the Navy, they call them "Sea Stories," but in the Air Force, we simply call them "Stories." I’m sharing my background not to boast, but so you know where I’m coming from and how my experiences shape the stories you'll encounter in my campaigns. One of the greatest honors of my career has been working alongside some of the brightest and most dedicated people I’ve ever met—many of whom are featured in these stories.

I first got into DCS about 8 years ago, after stepping away from the flying career field. I started with FPV drones to reconnect with the thrill of flying. Then I discovered DCS and, with the original Oculus Rift, experienced the magic of flying in VR. That was it—I shelved my drones, built a dedicated cockpit, and invested in a high-performance gaming PC. My mission-building journey began when I volunteered to provide voice acting for some of DCS's top creators, including Baltic, Reflected, Ground Pounder, Badger, and Sedlo. I was hooked by their campaigns, particularly Baltic's Red Flag missions, which left me feeling the same exhaustion and satisfaction I felt after flying in USAF exercises. It was incredible.

Inspired by the effort and detail these creators put into their work, I started to dream of creating something of my own. Though I knew I couldn’t match their level of craftsmanship, I was determined to bring my own stories and experiences to life in DCS. That’s how I ended up here, and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the campaign developer community for their support. Without it, my upcoming Sentry Pacific campaign wouldn’t be possible. While I may not be able to replicate the sheer technical brilliance of others' campaigns, I focus on what I love: storytelling and creating real-world immersion. If you dive into one of my campaigns, I can promise you’ll land with a smile on your face—just as I did after countless missions throughout my career.

Oh and one last thing... The SOB callsign stands for "Son of Bear". But that's a story for another time. It's technically pronounced, S... OH.....Bee...., but you can shorten it to SOB (like cry) if you want!
